Game One Hundred Fifty-Two: Brewers (78-73) vs. Braves (79-73)
Game Time - 6:35pm C.T. SportSouth (Braves) / Fox Sports North (Brewers), XM Radio Channel 184 - Location - Turner Field, Atlanta

Jeff Suppan (10-11, 4.72/1.49) vs. Jeff Bennett (0-0, -.--/-.--)

For the Faithful.... The Brewers open a 4-game weekend series tonight against the Braves in Atlanta. With the Cubs having a well-deserved off day this is a pivotal game for the Brewers. If the Brewers win they will move to within one half game, if they lose they drop to a game and a half back. The Braves will give Jeff Bennett his first career big league start in the opener.

The Braves still have a pulse in the playoff picture. They enter play tonight 5 1/2 games back of the Mets in 3rd place in the East and 6 games back of the Padres for the NL Wild Card. Lance Cormier was scheduled to get the start tonight but Jeff Bennett was very impressive during the Triple-A playoffs with Richmond....2-0 with a 1.04 ERA. Bennett pitched for the Brewers in 2004....he was 1-5 with a 4.79 ERA in 60 games out of the pen.

Brewers' line-up....

  1. Rickie Weeks - 2B
  2. Joe Dillion - RF
  3. Ryan Braun - 3B
  4. Prince Fielder - 1B
  5. Corey Hart - CF
  6. Geoff Jenkins - LF
  7. Damian Miller - C
  8. J.J. Hardy - SS
  9. Jeff Suppan - P

Braves' line-up....

  1. Kelly Johnson - 2B
  2. Edgar Renteria - SS
  3. Chipper Jones - 3B
  4. Mark Teixeira - 1B
  5. Brian McCann - C
  6. Jeff Francoeur - RF
  7. Matt Diaz - C
  8. Jeff Bennett - P

Let's Watch the Scoreboard....

Great question John, I don't know the answer but I'm sure someone on here will.

  • John

Can Soto be put on the playoff roster int he event we make it? I know there are some technicalities if guys are on the DL on Sept 1st, then there are some loopholes in getting guys on the roster. does anyone know the exact rule? Thanks

  • Rick

And now the Brewers get to face Hudson and Smoltz the next two days. How sweet!

  • Trevor

Maybe that 10 inning loss took the wind out of the Brewer's sails against Houston. That would be sweet. Here's hoping for a Braves sweep.

  • Matt Haggard

Gosh, I missed something this fun? What can the naysayers say after this? Were up in both wins and losses now. Good loss Brewers, good loss.

  • Shaun

Jim, I am good. I tivo'd Survior I am going to watch it right now. I love the Comcast Game Plan. I told Neil I am going to buy it to watch the Brewers lose and that is what I did tonight. Now they have Hudson and Smoltz....nice.

We have to take care of business tomorrow!!!

  • Jennifer Marie Rexach

Thank-you Atlanta and the baseball Gods!!!

  • Scott

    BRAVES WIN, BRAVES WIN!!!!!

As much as last night was a must win game for the Cubs, tonight is almost as important. With the Brewers having two more games to play than us, it's critical that they lose those two and now we're a game and a half up and the division title is within our grasp!!!

  • Jim (Tinley Park)

    1.5 GAME UP ON MILWAUKEE

    FINAL

    ATL 3

    MIL 1

  • agustin rexach

Yes!!!Cubs Win, Cubs w..uhhh Braves win! Braves win!

  • Jennifer Marie Rexach

Ok, in my family this is getting out of control. I've still haven't gotten home from work as I have stayed with my mom watching the Brewers, hoping, praying the Braves win tonight. I am even secretly willing the Mets to lose (sorry dad) if only to keep the Braves still in the raceand motivated enough to win. I must say the Braves pitching has been amazing - stopping that powerful offensive and limiting Fielder to only a walk 0-3. However don't know if you noticed that in Cubbie fashion Atlanta has a lot of GDIPs in this game. Well here's to shamelessly rooting for the Braves and anything that could help us as I continue obsessing with mom.

  • Zach Swetz

BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN!! boy the brewers really looked flat and dead in that game, very encouraging news for the cubs.

  • Neil

    1 1/2 game lead!!

  • scott

Two down, ONE TO GO....Sorianos' gonna do it!

  • Zach Swetz

to answer my own question after looking it up, soriano is appealing the suspension and a likely hearing date is monday...the day after the brewers are done with them. that is huge since he is there stud closer.

fyi the brewers just left runners on 1 and 3 with 2 outs. the braves starter is outta the game

  • Jim (Tinley Park)

    Shaun:

    How's it going?

  • Zach Swetz

i noticed today that Rafael Soriano was suspended for four day for the braves, does anyone know whether he is available for this game and or series, or whether he starts his suspension now.

  • Neil

Jennifer...sorry you were not in the preapproved list. You are now, I missed you the other day. Comment away, no more delays.

    3-1 Braves, top of 6

  • Shaun

I am watching the game on Comcast Game Plan, I made the purchase mid season for this reason. My wife was thrilled. Baseball all the time. This kid making his major league debut for the Braves is really making the Brewers look stupid.

    Tom-a-hawk CHOP OOOOHHHEEE OOOOOOO

  • Zach Swetz

the braves pitcher has been very impressive and dominate. 8 strikeouts through 5 i believe. the brewer hitters look utterly clueless at the plate, AND IM LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT!! COME ON BRAVES ADD ON SOME RUNS!!

  • Jim (Tinley Park)

    In case anyone cares:

    Hou 2

    STl 0

    Bot 2

Its nice to see those humps from Texas score some runs.

  • Brian

Neil, you are one wild and crazy guy...and I absolutely love it.

Abby, I am glad I got that song in your head this morning...I never had any idea what it what about until Neil told me. So therefore, I am very sorry.

    Ooooooh, ooooooh, oooohhoooo, oooohhhoooo.

Yes, my arm is moving in the chopping position right now.

  • Neil

Weeks homered...3-1 Braves, bottom of 3

  • Jennifer Marie Rexach

    Yes!!! Go Chipper

  • Trevor

This is great.. I saw the Braves were winning and I stopped by here just in case someone was posting about the game and VOILA! "Scoreboard Watchin"!

Love it. Go Braves! Go Cubs!

  • Neil

    Thanks guys...

    3-0 Braves, end of 2.

  • agustin rexach

    oooooooooo oeeeeeoooooo! oooooooeeeeeoooooo!

  • Abby

    Great idea Agustin!

  • agustin rexach

Neil, CCO people ...you guys rock! I just came by my computer but did not expect you here! Thanks for the hard work you put day in and day out. You deserve a Brave win!!!

BTW I feel that the Brewers offense is pretty good but on paper and in reality the Brave's look intimidating. And Andru has been MIA.

    OK oooooooooo oeeeeeoooooo! oooooooeeeeeoooooo!

  • Neil

The game is also on ESPN Radio....

  • Jim (Tinley Park)

    Neil:

Sweet idea! In a few minutes I will be tuning into

a new season of "Survivor" but I have my net open and I am monitoring the game on Yahoo sports.
