Lee Suspended Five Games

According to several reports out of Chicago, Derrek Lee was fined an undisclosed amount of money and suspended 5 games for his actions in Saturday’s bench clearing brawl. Chris Young received a 5-game suspension as well and was also fined. Both Lee and Young are expected to appeal the suspension that is scheduled to start on Tuesday.

Cubs’ hitting coach Gerald Perry was suspended for 3 games and was also fined for his “aggressive actions”, Perry will start serving his suspension on Tuesday. Jake Peavy and Brian Giles were also fined but did not receive any suspensions.

No official word on whether or not Lee will appeal the suspension, but several reports have stated he will try to prolong the suspension as long as possible. XM Radio speculated the Cubs will try to hold off the suspension until Aramis Ramirez returns from the DL….Ramirez is expected back on Friday.
