The Cubs put Cliff Floyd on the bereavement list on Friday and will recall infielder Mike Fontenot on Saturday to take his place on the active roster. Floyd was in the original lineup on Friday but was removed an hour and half before game time and went back to Chicago to be with his ailing father according to a report from the Associated Press.
Floyd’s timeframe to return to the Cubs is uncertain at this time, the earliest he can return is on Monday when the Cubs face the Astros at Wrigley Field for the make-up game from April 11th. The Cubs were toying with the idea of recalling Mike Fontenot with the recent injury to Aramis Ramirez. Lou Piniella does not have an extra infielder on the active roster with Ryan Theriot, Mark DeRosa and Cesar Izturis all in the starting lineup. Mike Fontenot will turn 27 on Saturday.
Thoughts and prayers go out to Cliff Floyd and his family.
