Carlos Zambrano (7-6, 4.53/1.40) vs. Mark Buehrle (4-3, 3.45/1.09)

Let the Crosstown Classic continue on the South Side.... The Cubs took two of three at Wrigley in May and the White Sox will look to repay the favor. The White Sox are struggling but the Cubs are not exactly playing their best baseball of the season having just lost 2 of 3 to the Texas Rangers. Aramis Ramirez is expected to be activated from the DL before today's game and Lou Piniella should welcome his offense back with open arms. The Cubs have not exactly lit up the scoreboard since he has been out of the lineup.

Carlos Zambrano has been just short of brilliant since his meltdown and his skipper will need a great outing from his ace today to end their current 2-game losing streak.

Carlos Zambrano was a hard luck loser last Saturday against the Padres but kept his composure despite all of the distractions around him. Zambrano threw his first complete game since 2005 and was beaten by a solo home run off the bat of Russell Branyan. In his last 3 starts Zambrano has allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, on 10 hits in 23 2/3 innings (1.14 ERA). The White Sox only win in the series at Wrigley came against Zambrano and they beat him pretty soundly on that cold, rainy day in May. Zambrano allowed 7 runs on 6 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Zambrano is 4-2 in 10 career games, 8 starts, against the White Sox with a 4.94 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP with 47 strikeouts and 34 walks in 54 2/3 innings. Today will be Zambrano's 4th career start at the Cell, in his 3 previous starts (4 games) he has a record of 1-1 with a 6.05 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP.

  • Paul Konerko - 6-19, with 3 home runs, 5 RBI's and 3 walks
  • Rob Mackowiak - 11-33, with 4 doubles, a triple, a home run, 4 RBI's and 7 walks
  • A.J. Pierzynski - 4-12, with a home run and 2 RBI's
  • Jim Thome - 4-10, with a double, a home run and 2 RBI's

Mark Buehrle had a tremendous first month of the season that included a no-hitter against the Texas Rangers on April 18th and posted a 2-1 record with a 2.97 ERA. However, Buehrle did not post a win in five starts in May and was 0-1 with a 4.28 ERA but posted a strikeout to walk ratio of 24:9. He is coming off of back-to-back wins against the Astros and Pirates and allowed a combined 2 runs on 17 hits in 16 innings of work.

Buehrle is 2-2 with a 3.74 ERA at the Cell and unlike many southpaws he has better numbers against right-handed hitters than lefties. Righties are hitting .244 this season against Buehrle with a .269 OBP while lefties are hitting .328 with a .350 OBP. Buehrle is 3-3 in 8 career starts against the Cubs with a 5.43 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP.

  • Mark DeRosa - 6-17, with 3 doubles, a home run and 2 RBI's
  • Derrek Lee - 4-6, with 2 doubles, a home run and 2 RBI's
  • Angel Pagan - 3-6
  • Alfonso Soriano - 4-26, with a double, a home run and 2 RBI's

Let's Talk Cubs Baseball....

  • Neil

Jeff, I am looking into that but I think you hit the nail on the head earlier.

  • Jeff in AZ

    Neil-

Lets find out who this "soria" guy really is. I agree with Matt Haggard. It's one thing to be frustrated, and nother to be full of crap. He gone.

  • Matt Haggard

I hate to be mean, BUT, Soria, Shit up and leave..This is a place for the faithful! Cubs rock!

  • agustin rexach

Good win! Great Pitching and yes! Aramis was badly needed.

Aaron I wish we could get Griffey but I find it very difficult. He could be the difference but he is high risk. [Great just what JHendry likes maybe it can happen] LOL!

  • Jim (Tinley Park)

    Cubs Win! Cubs Win!

  • Aaron

Even though we're still far back in the weak division, you have to feel on top of the world when we beat the White Sux...no matter how terrible they are....

I'm happy to have ARAM back, but all this goes to prove is exactly what I said in the offseason---in order to make a run at the playoffs, you have to have at least 3 power guys in your lineup at all times....with Lee scuffling to find his power stroke, and ARAM out of the lineup---all we had was Soriano.....now, we have 2 of 3.....and when Lee is out, it'll remain the same. That's why I think getting a guy like Griffey is imperative. We need to make a deal like that.

    Btw---if ARAM didn't go down, I bet we'd be at .500 now....that's a shame

  • Neil

Like I said, I am glad to see Ramirez back.

  • Boseph Heyden

I guess that would make sense. I tried to infiltrate a White Sox fan website with the name Thom, but then I realized:

    A) No White Sox fan would have a clue as to make the connection between Thom and Thome

    B) No White Sox fan is smart enough to start up a fan-based Website.

On game related matters, Big Z is tearing it up. At least a strike out PER inning after the sixth? That's as good as you can get. I was hoping he might break Wood's 20 Strikeout performance, but hey, I'll take this. Plus, looks like we're getting into their bullpen. Hello 8 run 8th.

  • Jeff in AZ

I'm starting to think that "Soria" is not his real name, and he probably is a white sux infiltrator to this sight.

  • Neil

    That missed bunt hurts....

  • Austin

    Rob,

    Erstad injured his foot/ankle...not good.

  • Austin

Soria, you should add an -no to your name. And you could be the most pessimistic Cubs fan in the world. Z looks great today! Just as he has this entire month.

  • Trevor

Nathanael: I actually think thats an insult to Aaron...Aaron at least rants somewhat logically, even though its negative.

Soria: My grandparents have both been fans their entire lives, going on 80 years old for both of them without ever once complaining that the Cubs haven't "given them something back." I plan on doing the same.

    GO CUBS! Z's looking great.

  • soria

i hope cubs win one for the fans today. oooppp 2 on no out no run>>>>>> here is again . keep your hope up cubs fan. i am hardly watching the game with 2runs Big Z is horribe againts the sux . the game is not over yet guys , i am going to pray now

  • Boseph Heyden

Erstad realized he was playing for Chicago's C-Team (there's a semi-pro team out there somewhere that's above the Sox) and purposely hurt his knee.

  • Nathanael

7 Ks through 3 innings. Yeah, Soria, Zambrano really sucks today. By the way, Soria, are you related to Aaron somehow?

  • baron

How about Z today. I cant believe some donkeys wanted him to be traded. Sure, hes a nut case -- but when he's on -- no other Cubs starter can hold a candle to him.

  • So glad to see Ramirez back.

  • Rob

    What happened to Erstad?

  • dan

yeah i dont know what he's lookin at....Z looks good today !!!

  • nick

Z strikes out the first three batters and you don't think he looks good, what exactly are you looking at? Go Cubs, Sweep of the Sux, the Royals take two of tree and bam right where we want them. I will talk to ya all on Sunday, I have to leave for a rehearsal dinner, I am in a wedding so probably wont get to see the game till Sunday., so LETS GO CUBS !!!!

  • Boseph Heyden

Darin Erstad...he gone. Eat it White Sux. And Big Z doesn't look good? Seems good to me.

  • soria

  • dan

  • Neil

    Fontenot - 2B

    Lee - 1B

    Ramirez - DH

    DeRosa - 3B

    Bowen - C

    Pagan - RF

    Pie - CF

    Izturis - SS

  • dan

i really dont get it??? why all the time so NEGATIVE?? i too am frusturated that our cubbies are not playing up to par by far but still stay positive cause thats what we do....no matter what...and even more positive cause its the Cubs vs. The Sux...we need this one and get on a roll...thats all i got stay classy and quit all the negativity....GO CUBS!!

  • soria

lets go cubs.????? so what if big Z have a big day, but we cannot score a run just like his last game againts the padres. i am in the 30 and been the cubs fan all my life . but finally i realize that i will not see them win anything for the rest of my life, please someone tells me what we can do for the cubs . we the cubs fans do everything to support them year after year , but we got shtty back. even the florida marlins has world series rings, . reallity is we are the worst baseball franchise in the league. please be honest here. cubs have fans, money, etc..... but they are bunch of losers, just want money. i will go to see the game today in the field and i am embarrased putting cubs logo on me. so i just am going to wear the blank t-shirt. for anyone trying to get any hope. today will be a long day. i got that felling. good day to all

  • Austin

    SWEEP!! SWEEEP!! SWEEP!!

Big day for Z coming up, I can feel it...

    Let's go Royals!!

Rammy is gonna hit a Granny!
