Talkin’ Cubs Live – Cubs vs. Royals – 03/10/07

Spring Training Game Eleven: Cubs (5-4-1) vs. Royals (5-5)
Game Time – 2:05pm CT. – Comcast Sports Net, WGN Radio, XM Radio Channel 176
Location – Surprise Stadium, Surprise

Ted Lilly (0-0, 0.00) vs. Jorge De La Rosa (0-0, 6.75)

The roles reverse today when the Cubs take on the Kansas City Royals. Ted Lilly will take the hill to start the game with Mark Prior scheduled to pitch in relief. Lilly allowed just 1 hit in his first outing….quietly taking a backseat to both Kerry Wood and Mark Prior.

Ted Lilly was very effective in his 2 innings, kept the ball down and did not allow a walk. The Royals have an exciting young team that plays in arguably the toughest division in baseball. Alex Gordon is one of the top prospects in the league and has not disappointed to this point in the spring…. .333 avg with a .500 OBP.

Mark Prior needs to take the next step today in his rehab and put pressure on the Cubs to make a decision between him and Wade Miller. The battle for the 5th spot is on, it is time for one of them to take it.

Angel Guzman is also scheduled to pitch today, so while it is a spring game, the pitching is very important today.

Injury update…. According to a report on, Angel Pagan did hurt his side while throwing a ball and can only hit right handed, which has limited his playing time.
