The last weekend of Summer, Barry Bonds and the Giants….the Cubs start a 7-game homestand today that will conclude next Thursday with the last game of the season against the Pirates. Another “Battle of the Lefties”….Rich Hill is coming off the best start of his career; he made one mistake against the Cardinals last Saturday and allowed just 1 run on 4 hits in 7 innings. Hill had a very good month of August and finished with a 3-2 record and a 3.38 ERA.
Another lefty to give the Cubs offense problems….Lowry is a very good lefty, unlike most of the Southpaws that have embarrassed the Cubs this season. He is 2-0 in his last 5 starts with a 1.86 ERA, just 8 earned runs in 38 2/3 innings. After a rough July, Lowry settled back down in August and even threw a complete game shutout against the Diamondbacks on August 21st. He has allowed just 1 run in his last 17 innings. Lowry is 1-1 in 3 career games against the Cubs with a 3.32 ERA. The Cubs will have their hands full today with Lowry and they will need another excellent performance from Hill to have a chance at ending the losing streak today.
Let’s Talk Cubbies Baseball….
