Game One Hundred Thirteen: Cubs (48-64) vs. Brewers (52-60)
Game Time – 7:05pm C.T. WGN TV, WGN Radio, XM Radio Channel 184
Location – Miller Park, Milwaukee
Carlos Zambrano (12-4, 3.42) vs. Dave Bush (7-8, 4.74)
Can the Cubs win their 4th in a row and tie a season high? Carlos Zambrano takes the hill today for the Cubs and will look to get back on the winning track and put up win number 13 on the season. Zambrano is unbeaten on the road this year and is 7-0 with a 2.67 ERA. He lost his last start against the Pirates but was the victim of poor defense. Zambrano is 1-1 in 3 games this season against the Brewers with a 6.00 ERA, but this time Zambrano does not have to pitch to Carlos Lee. While Zambrano does have an inflated ERA against the Brewers, his ERA against the Brewers does include his low point of the season when he gave up 7 runs on 8 hits in 4 innings of work on April 30th. Chris Capuano and the Brewers pounded the Cubs that day and woke up Big Z, after that game he has been an entirely different pitcher. Zambrano is 1-0 in his last 2 outings against the Brewers, including a win in Miller Park on July 7th….his ERA in the other 2 games is 3.21.
Dave Bush is 0-2 in 3 games this season against the Cubs with a 3.66 ERA and was a hard luck loser on July 8th. Carlos Marmol beat him 3-1 and Bush struck out 8 Cubs on that Saturday evening. Bush pitched very well his last time out against the Rockies and threw 6 innings of shutout ball. After 2 rough outings, that included an appearance out of the bullpen, he allowed 10 earned runs in just 4 innings of work against the Reds and Pirates. Bush had a tremendous June but struggled in July, with the exception of the game against the Cubs. The Brewers are slowly dropping out of the race and are in the middle of their own injury problems. They will be desperate for a win tonight and if the Cubs can get out to an early lead look for Ned Yost to go to his bullpen and try everything he can to beat Zambrano and the Cubs.
