Angel Pagan made his first rehab start for the I-Cubs, Rich Hill throws 7 innings of shutout ball, the first place West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, A Roster Move and Wade Miller to Start on Tuesday for the Peoria Chiefs, plus All-Stars on the Farm
Angel Pagan made his Iowa Cubs debut on Monday night and started in right field. Pagan went 0-2 with a walk and was replaced in the 7th inning by Felix Pie. Rich Hill dominated the New Orleans Zephyrs (Washington Nationals), struck out 9 and only allowed 1 hit in 7 innings. Hill combined with Kerry Ligtenberg and Michael Wuertz to throw a 2-hit shutout and the I-Cubs won the game 2-0. The only hit off of Rich Hill was by Kenny Kelly in the bottom of the 3rd.
Hill threw 99 pitches, 67 for strikes and walked 2. He lowered his ERA to 1.91 and is now 5-1 on the year at Iowa. Kerry Ligtenberg threw a perfect 8th, struck out one and Michael Wuertz walked one, struck out two and gave up the other hit on the night before collecting his 7th save for the I-Cubs.
Iowa is still 6 games back of the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers), second place in the division (35-40). Micah Hoffpauir has hit 4 home runs and recorded 10 RBI’s in his last nine games.
Mark Watson was traded on Monday from the Iowa Cubs to the Oakland A’s. Watson was 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 23 games for the I-Cubs. In 21 1/3 innings he struck out 21, walked 13 and gave up 10 runs on 20 hits. Watson had been on the DL since June 9th.
The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx were rained out on Monday but did win their last game on Sunday, 6-0 over the Tennessee Smokies (Arizona Diamondbacks) and have quietly moved into first place in the North Division of the Southern League by one full game over the Chattanooga Lookouts (Cincinnati Reds).
Wade Miller is scheduled to make his second rehab start on Tuesday for the Peoria Chiefs against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Seattle Mariners). Miller is scheduled to throw between 50-60 pitches for the Chiefs.
Also, Eric Patterson and Jae Kuk Ryu were named to the Futures Team as apart of the upcoming All-Star festivities. Patterson will play for the U.S. team and Ryu for the World Team. This is the 8th Annual All-Star Futures game and is sponsored this year by XM Radio. The game will take place on Sunday July 9th and will only be a 7-inning contest.
