Brewers Take Two on Tuesday from Cubs….In the Minors

Minor League Report – 05/03/06

The Cubs’ Minor League system is becoming more important as everyday passes and ‘The Youth Movement’ in Chicago has made all of the Cubs Faithful more aware of what is going on down in the minors. Tuesday was not a good day for either Iowa or West Tenn as they both lost their respective games. Iowa was beaten by the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers) 9-1 and the Diamond Jaxx lost to the Huntsville Stars (Milwaukee Brewers) 4-3. Iowa Cubs - The I-Cubs could not win back-to-back games against the division leading Sounds on Tuesday. After a 7-4 win on Monday, the I-Cubs and Raul Valdes were pounded 9-1. The Sounds had 15 hits, including 2 home runs and Raul Valdes only lasted 4 1/3 innings in the rout and gave up 4 runs on hits. Bobby Brownlie gave up 2 more runs in 2/3 of an inning of work and the pitching staff as a whole did not perform well. Felix Pie went 0 for 4 and Ryan Theriot had a couple of hits as the I-Cubs only managed 6 on the evening. Iowa is now 7 games back of the Sounds with two more games left in Nashville.

West Tenn Diamond Jaxx - With Tuesday’s loss to Huntsville, the Diamond Jaxx are now 3 games back of division leading Chattanooga Lookouts (Cincinnati Reds). J.R. Mathes started the game and only gave up 1 run on 4 hits in 6 innings of work. Clay Rapada could not hold the lead in the 9th and gave up 3 runs, 2 earned, on 3 hits and blew his first save on the season, Rapada’s record is now 2-2 on the season. Eric Patterson and Luis Montanez each had a hit on Tuesday and Chris Walker went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored.
