Game Forty-Six: Cubs (18-27) vs. Marlins (13-21)
Game Time – 12:05pm C.T. WGN TV, WGN Radio, XM Radio Channel 183
Location – Dolphins Stadium, Miami

Greg Maddux (5-3, 3.76) vs. Brian Moehler (1-4, 7.29)

Can the Cubs escape Florida with a win? The Marlins have been a team the Cubs have not been able to figure out under Dusty Baker, no matter who is in the uniform. Greg Maddux looks to salvage the last game of the series before the off day on Thursday. Maddux has had only one good outing in May after a surprising and dominating start to the season.

Maddux has not won a game since April 28th against the Brewers and is 0-3 in his last 4 starts with a 7.48 ERA. He is coming off a very un-Maddux like performance against the White Sox when he had control problems and walked 5 for the first time since April 2004. In his last 21 2/3 innings, Maddux has allowed 32 hits, 19 runs and 8 walks while striking out only 13….in the 5 starts he made in April, Maddux only walked 6.

Maddux has to give the Cubs a chance to win and at least 7 innings of work today against the Marlins. With Marshall’s 4-inning performance on Monday and Wood’s 5-inning performance on Tuesday, the bullpen in overworked and could use a breather, before the day off and the Atlanta Braves come to Chicago on Friday.

Brian Moehler goes for the Marlins today and he has gotten better as the season has gone along. Moehler has pitched into the 7th inning in his last 2 starts against the Pirates and Devil Rays and has only allowed 2 runs in each of those ballgames. In 4 starts this month, Moehler has only allowed 8 walks in 23 2/3 innings.

The Cubs have yet to put together a complete game, everyday there is one part of the team that is not clicking. The guys are still tight and with every loss it is getting worse and worse and so are the defeats.

The Cubs just need a win and worry about tomorrow….tomorrow.
