Game Thirty-Four: Cubs (15-18) vs. Giants (16-18)
Game Time - 2:35pm C.T. WGN TV, WGN Radio, XM Radio Channel 189 & 190
Location - AT & T Park, San Francisco, CA

Sean Marshall (2-0, 3.12) vs. Jamey Wright (2-3, 4.61)

The Cubs turn to rookie Sean Marshall this afternoon in the rubber game of the series against the Giants. Marshall has not received a decision is his last two outing despite posting a 1.35 ERA in those starts. Marshall has only allowed 2 runs in his last 13 1/3 innings pitched while only giving up 7 hits during that time, against the Padres on May 6th he did not allow a hit until the 6th inning.

Will Bonds hit number 714 today? Both Rich Hill and Carlos Zambrano did not become a footnote in baseball history....can Marshall do the same? The Giants start a series with the Dodgers on Friday and it would be perfect if Bonds' date with history could wait and happen against the Dodgers....again.

The Cubs need to build on Wednesday's win and gain some momentum before heading back to Wrigley to face the Padres over the weekend. The Cubs play their next six games at the Friendly Confines, before heading across town to "The Cell" to face the Wrongsiders.

Dusty made some very good changes to the lineup on Wednesday and even inserted Ryan Theriot at the end of the game. John Mabry played an excellent first base....Juan Pierre and Ronny Cedeno adapted well to the flip flop in the order and helped to provide the Cubs with a much needed win. The line-up worked....let's hope Dusty did not throw away that card.

Let's Go Cubs. I heard in an article, I think in the Sun Times, that Baker is thinking about making Mabry the everyday starter at 1st. I really like that decision. That way Perez keeps his but on the bench. Maybe he can catch fire and add another good bat to the lineup. Time to put together a nice long winning streak.

and the lineup is:
Cedeno
Pierre
Walker
Ramirez
Mabry
Barrett
Jones
Murton
Marshall

Why can't Dusty just pick a line up and run with it? Every game its completely different lineup.

Neil, this is the 3rd straight game where the Cubs pitcher has walked the leadoff batter in the first inning. Both times prior the player (Winn) scored. I would say the odds are that he will score again to put us in a hole.

Why do the pitchers insist on putting themselves in a hole to start the game?

This game looks like it will be over soon.
So much for momentum.

Wow, what to say ? Lead off walks will KILL you almost everytime. It really sets the tone of the inning and, in this case, game.

How about a huge comeback win today? That would give us the momentum to go on a nice winning streak, huh? See how I'm trying to stay positive Jason B ?? lol

What is going on with Marshall? Hopefully our offense carry's over from last night. We are going to need it. Let's get out of this innning.

Okay, so now WE get a lead off walk, we need to make the most out of it. Let's go Cubs !!!

two on and no outs with the top of our batting order and no score way to go fella's. That was a golden oppurtunity wasted.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling that wasted inning is going to suck the life out of the team, at least for today. That was really a golden opportunity. I'll be on the road for the rest of the game so I'll leave you with this:

Go Cubs !!!

Come on Jones bring em in stay hot.

and another oppurtunity wasted

Has anyone else ever seen a more inept team when it comes to hitting in the clutch? I mean this team has no idea what they're doing up at the plate. The opposing pitcher throws 4 straight balls, and then the next batter(Cedeno) swings at the first pitch. Hell Cedeno can't even lay down a bunt in two pitches, and what did that result in? A double play! I think it will be a long weekend next weekend! I am getting the hell out of town because the White Sox are going to eat us up and spit us out! Ozzie is going to have a field day with Dusty.

Anthony, those walks kill me. It looks like they are aiming the ball instead of pitching....Marshall just did not have it today and the sinkerball was working for Wright

Bynum just tripled, Hairston scored...at least they were not shutout again.
