Talkin’ Cubs Live – Cubs vs. Cardinals – 04/07/06

Game Three: Cubs (1-1) vs. Cardinals (3-0)
Game Time – 1:20pm C.T. on WGN, WGN Radio, XM Radio Channel 186
Opening Day at Wrigley – WGN Special at 12:30pm C.T.

Greg Maddux (0-0, -.–) vs. Jeff Suppan (0-0, -.–)

The Cubs want Opening Day at Wrigley to be a special one….they will introduce the Cubs Faithful to the “Bud Light Bleachers” and would like to top off the day with a win against the Cardinals. The Cubs were 10-6 last season against the Cardinals, winning the home and away series, each 5-3. Albert Pujols will look to continue his hot start (5 for 10, 3 home runs and 6 RBI’s) on Friday against Maddux; Pujols is 10 for 24 with 3 home runs lifetime against Maddux. The Cardinals just completed a 3-game sweep of the Phillies.

Maddux needs to perform like he did in the second half of last season. The Cubs hopefully corrected the mental errors that plagued them on Wednesday….they give the Cardinals extra outs and it could get ugly quick….

The defense must perform better as well and Dusty announced on Thursday night that Neifi Perez will start at second base to provide the Cubs a better defenseman against the Cardinals. Jerry Hairston, Jr. has not hit well against Suppan over his career.

The Cubs were 38-43 last season at Wrigley.
