Game Twenty-Three: Cubs (13-9) vs. Brewers (13-11)
Game Time – 1:20pm C.T. on WGN TV, WGN Radio, XM Radio Channel 185
Location – Wrigley Field, Chicago

Carlos Zambrano (0-1, 3.94) vs. Chris Capuano (3-2, 3.00)

As the rain falls all over the Midwest, especially in Chicago, there are doubts that the scheduled game between the Cubs and Brewers will be played today and rain is in the forecast until Wednesday when the Cubs head to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks. There has not be an official word yet and if the game is played today it is a MUST for Carlos Zambrano to give the Cubs an innings eating performance and a win in the series against the Brewers.

While the Cubs have had a good first month, the Reds have played extraordinary ball and have the best record in baseball and are 10 games over .500. The Cubs have to keep pace and at the same time put distance between them and the Brewers. If Zambrano can “start” his season today the Cubs could go 6-2 on this home stand with a sweep of the 2-game series against the Pirates.

On the flip side a rainout might be what the bullpen needs at this point. The Cubs are at game 3 of 17 straight games without a day off, their next day off is May 15th, due to Rusch’s lack of performance on Saturday; the bullpen received a lot of work. With Marshall and Guzman scheduled to pitch the series against the Pirates, the young arms figure not to go past the 6th inning….which means more work for the pen with a 9 game, 3 city, West Coast trip on the horizon that starts on Wednesday.

Zambrano needs to be Big Z on Sunday if the rain goes away….today’s rain is washing away the old….

Check back for rain updates….Feel free to discuss the Cubs’ options with Glendon Rusch and the pitching staff while we await the decision on today’s game….

Let’s Talk….
