Talkin’ Cubs Live – Cubs vs. Cardinals – 04/21/06

Game Fifteen: Cubs (9-5) vs. Cardinals (9-6)
Game Time – 7:10pm C.T. on WGN TV, WGN Radio, XM Radio Channel 187
Location – Busch Stadium, St. Louis

Jerome Williams (0-1, 2.45) vs. Mark Mulder (1-0, 4.05)

Tonight the Cubs will make their first trip to the new Busch Stadium, the Cubs won their first and last game at the old stadium….and a win in the series opener would be a great way for the Cubs and the Faithful to begin the new era in St. Louis. Jerome Williams is scheduled to make his second start of the season. Williams was a had luck loser last Saturday in Pittsburgh and hopefully the offense, without Derrek Lee, will supply more support for the young right hander than they did last week.

Updated – 4:22pm C.T. with Roster Moves and DL Information

The Cubs are 4-2 on the current road trip with 3 games left before heading back to Wrigley for a Monday night contest against the Florida Marlins. This is the third different time zone on this road trip.

Every night it seems that a different Cub has stepped up and helped his team win, but tonight the Cubs need to show what this TEAM is made of. The comeback win against the Dodgers on Wednesday night was very impressive. The team as a whole had not played well and it would have been very easy to ‘mail-in” that game after the injuries to Derrek Lee and Scott Eyre….but they did not. They rallied around one another and pulled out a tough victory on a difficult night….that is a sign of a good team and starting tonight they need to show that was not a fluke and this is what the 2006 Chicago Cubs is….a group of winners….a team.

Aramis Ramirez is the player to watch tonight, Ramirez is hitting .196 on the season and he has to step up in the absence of D-Lee. The Juan Pierre Factor is beginning to pay dividends and both Matt Murton and Ronny Cedeno are playing better than any of the ‘experts’ thought they would.

Who will be at first base tonight? With Mulder on the mound, Todd Walker is probably the best bet….look for Jerry Hairston to get the start at second base.

This series will tell a lot about the character of this team….2 out 3 would be great and another sweep….well I might just have to drink the Kool-Aid….

Let’s Talk Cubbies Baseball….

Update - According to a report on Cubs.com, the Cubs have placed Derrek Lee on the 15-day DL and called up Michael Restovich from AAA Iowa. The Cubs also moved Wade Miller from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL to create room for Restovich.
