Game One: Cubs vs. Reds
Game Time - 1:10pm C.T. on WGN TV and Radio, XM Radio Channel 185

Carlos Zambrano (0-0, -.--) vs. Aaron Harang (0-0, -.--)

Will Carlos Zambrano be able to hold down the Reds offense and can the Cubs score enough runs to beat the Reds at Great American Ball Park? The Cubs showed during the spring that Dusty's "Combination Ball" can win ball games, let's hope that play like they have practiced.

PLAY BALL!!

Let's Talk Cubbies Baseball

Oh the flood gates are opening all right, it looks like Adam Dunn is going to need Noah and his Ark to survive this game.

Sidenote - I recall that I wanted the Cubs to sign Dunn this off-season and though he homered, his defense is responsible for AT LEAST four-five runs thus far.

Jacque has made very good connection, but I would not be surprised if Angel Pagan makes Hendry look rather smart.

  • Jeff

Thanks Brian for the info. Yeah Pagan battled up there, and now the flood gates are opening.

  • Brian

Pitch count, he is NOT hurt at all, he was rather ineffective.

On another subject, that was one heck of a first major league at bat for Angel Pagan.

    Let's go Juan!

  • Jeff

Neil?? We took Z out, hurt or pitch count getting to high?

  • Jeff

mlb.com is what I'm using, and so far it's been working fine. Last inning, guy on 2nd base 0 outs and score 0 runs..Are we the same Cubs team?

  • Jason B. from AZ

For those of you who only ever used MLB.com's Gameday to follow along with games while at work, I just checked out ESPN and they have "MLB GAMECAST" which is similar, and it seems equally good, if not better than mlb.com

Pierre just bunted for an out...did anyone see how close he was to being safe? I am just curious as he didn't seem to have a lot of luck bunting in ST.

  • Jason B. from AZ

anyone else having trouble getting the mlb gameday to load?

Sounds like I am missing a great game so far...we need to get Z the win, as he is a great candidate to win 20+ this year!

  • Jeff

Wow fans, I'm truly sorry I meant the '05 campaign. That's all Z needs on opening day is an umpire with a small strike zone. Hopefully his emotions won't get the best of him, and just throw strikes. Still looking good from here, keep the runs coming

  • Matt Haggard

Not really as this umpire seems to have a uber small strike zone

  • Brian

Gerry Davis is the homeplate ump today, I believe, and he is calling an extremely tight strike zone, but to his credit it was very consistent in the first inning for both sides. Z was close half the times.

Again, I love Matt Murton, I may have to write multiple articles about him, he just saved the day.

All I can say is it is time to get back on the roller coaster.

  • Jeff

Is this the first game of '04. Looks like we're in AZ again. Nice offensive start, but Zambrano cant seem to find the strike zone. I'm not watching tv, is he missing by alot or what's going on

  • Trevor

That was a great start. I can't believe I have to go to class and miss the rest of the game. Fortunately I have TIVO... :)

  • Brian

Umm, I am really enjoying the top of the first inning.

I remember a lot of folks wanted Adam Dunn instead of Jacque Jones.

And I have to admit, Bob Brenly seems to be on his game this year, seriously. I am a big detractor of his, but he has made me laugh out loud twice.

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, doubled off.

Oh and Jeff, I do not think Neil sleeps, that is his secret.

Matt Murton baby, I LOVE THIS KID, LOVE HIM!!!!

  • Trevor

A triple by Pierre and then Walker slaps in a double to ring in the new season! This is a great start guys!

  • Jeff

Neil- If you can't tell, I'm very envious of your daily job.If you need an assistant don't hesitate to call. I have great references, and you don't even have to pay me. Take care, and thanks for everything. This site and your articles made my offseason enjoyable even though my stress levels are going up every minute before the first pitch.
