Game Four - Cubs 3 Cardinals 2

wflag.jpg Just when I thought Opening Day was cold....Saturday at Wrigley was even colder, but the game was unbelievable and was everything a baseball fan would want to see. Carlos Zambrano and Chris Carpenter both had excellent games and rebounded from their first appearances of 2006. This was a good ole fashioned pitcher's duel.

On the day Jim Hendry's contract extension was announced (through 2008)....Zambrano held the Cardinals offense to only 3 hits before the 6th inning....when the wheels came off and then Michael Barrett and Derrek Lee saved the day....

After the Cardinals took the lead in the 6th by scoring 2 runs on only 1 hit, Matt Murton got on base ahead of Barrett who hit a 2 run home run to tie the game and Derrek Lee won it in the bottom of the 8th with a solo shot to left. Those 2 home runs were shots, I was sitting on the third base side of home plate and the wind was fierce....trust me.

Shaun will be posting an article later on the entire day....the first of his column "The Wrigley Perspective" and I will have a photo gallery up soon....sorry I am having a little difficulty connecting today. I have photos of the Silver Slugger Presentations on Saturday.

Look for Shaun's article soon and thank all of you for logging into the CCO, this is going to be a fun season here....after the Cubs lost the second game to the Reds, I received emails and had conversations with many of the Cubs Faithful that was just hoping for 2 out of 3 from the Cardinals....well you got it, so how do you feel about the Cubbies now?

Let's all hope Mr. Marshall can get the sweep on Sunday....so from a very cold and Windy City....That's the news....and I'm sticking to it!!!

  • Barry...you are right, Jacque is over swinging and I also did not like the route he took on a ball hit to right yesterday...because of the route he could not make the catch. He will hit, the question is...is when? He does not look comfortable at the plate and the boo-birds came out yesterday when he struck out again. Jones is a free swinger, we all knew this. I just hope he can reel it in and relax and play the way he is capable. If he does not hit, Dusty will hav to drop in him the order or Aramis will not see a good pitch all year.

It was Pierre's agent the cooled off the talks, they are saying because of Furcal's contract they want to wait and see. It is only 4 games in...be patient. The Cubs gave up a lot for Pierre, I would be surprised if they do not keep him.

Pie needs time and when I saw him in right field in Mesa, he looked great...unbelievable ARM. Pie is 5 for 12 in 3 games for Iowa so far, he needs playing time that he will only get right now in Iowa because of last year's injury. Be patient...

Jim, Wood and Miller each threw off the mound late last week and I have not heard anything about Prior. Let's see what Marshall does tonight...if the Cubs do win...let's see, 4-1 without Wood, Prior and Miller. Zambrano has not be credited with one of those wins and both Aramis and Jacque Jones have not produced yet...I like what I have seen from this NEW TEAM in CHICAGO....and yes, it is a team.

  • Barry

Is anyone else tiring of Jones at the plate? So far, to me, after five games, Jones is overpayed and under achieved.

Why am I not hearing of more reup talk regarding Pierre? He has already proven his worth. Everyone in the league admires his preparation. He's a consumate professional so what is the problem?

I very happy with Murton and Cedeno to this point. If they are the true indicators of our talent at the minor league level isay BRING ON FELIX PIE!! He would look real nice in RF!

  • jim

Love the way they are playing right now.

Even though he made two errors today, Cedeno showed

some good range. I believe the cold had something to do with the errors. It looked like he had trouble picking the ball out of the glove today.

Murton is solid!!!! Jones is stuggling and so is Aramis, I now Aramis is a warm weather hitter and Jones isn't going to be hitless all year either.

Any insight on Prior, Miller and Wood? I love to say, hear and feel CUBS WIN!!!!!!
