Roberto Novoa was optioned to Iowa, The Cubs officially announced the new sponsor for the Bleachers and Sean Marshall will start against the Cardinals on April 8th
To no one's surprise the Cubs optioned Roberto Novoa to AAA Iowa on Thursday morning. Novoa missed much of Spring Training with Valley Fever and will benefit by time in Iowa. The roster now stands at 27....
John McDonough mentioned the new naming rights for the bleachers at Wrigley Field during Saturday's WGN broadcast. The Cubs made the official announcement on Thursday....the bleachers will now be called the "Bud Light Bleachers". Here is the press release.
Several reports out of Chicago are saying that Sean Marshall will start the second game of the home stand next weekend against the St. Louis Cardinals on April 8th.
Check back for update as they become available....

Good roster moves by the front office. That being said, I wish that they would stop turning Wrigley into a giant commercial. They already added that horrendous green screen, rotating sign on the backstop, the "Sears Scoreboad" under the right and left mezzanie and now we have the "Bud Light Bleachers". What's next the "Chevrolet Outfield" or "1st base" brought to you by Pizza Hut. Come on Tribune Company, you have enough money. Wrigley is sold out almost every game and until the last 3 years you haven't spent all that much money on payroll. Give me a break. I'd don't like US Crapular Field because its a circus over there and it looks like every other stadium built in the 90's. Don't screw up my sancuary otherwise known as Wrigley Field. If you were going to have a beer sponser at least go with Old Style. That would at least sound good. Here's to the "Old Style Bleachers". Cheers.
Is it Monday yet?
Hey Steve,
I would generally agree with you about the Tribsters being too greedy...
But I do like some of the new stadiums, like Miller Park, for example, despite all the ads. There is a lot to be said for modern amenities...how many of us don't use air conditioning or plumbing in our homes? So some change is definitely progress.
Besides...we are talking about "Wrigley Field" and not "the Chicago Ballyard" or something unique to Chicago. As far as I know, Wrigley may be the first stadium to have naming rights (for Wrigley Gum) if you think about it.
BudLight BallPark has a nice ring to it, actually...
Jason, I will have to agree with you on some of the newer ballparks. I was more referring to the mid-80's to mid-90's stretch of "cookie cutter" stadiums. Some of the newer ones are very nice, like PNC for example. However, Wrigley Field is not named after Wrigley Gum its named after William Wrigley Jr. who owned the Cubs at the time. They changed the name of the ballpark, from Weeghman Park to Wrigley Field, just after he died to honor him.
My bad. They changed the name from Weeghman Park (1914-1920) to Cubs Park (1920-1926) then to Wrigley Field (1926-present).
