Another Setback for Wood

Kerry Wood to have his knee scoped on Tuesday

According to several reports from Peoria, AZ the Cubs have announced that Kerry Wood will have arthroscopic surgery this Tuesday in Los Angeles on his right knee. All reports are indicating this is not a setback for Wood, who threw a bullpen session on Friday. I witnessed him throwing and practicing with the team and was very shocked at the report I heard on XM Radio when I left the park in Peoria.

If Wood is having problems, I feel this is a good time to do the surgery. The Cubs are saying this will only set him back two weeks.

You know I hate to sound so serious with everyone so joyous with the start of spriing training games...But Ive had it..Woody youre ticking me off..There is little that Wood can do this year to warrant me wanting the Cubs to pick up his option..Time to go after Zito everyone...WIth time maybe even Zito can help develop Rich Hill..As for Kerry I hope he can recover and be the great pitcher he was at one time destined to be...but let it be for someone else..I know Im gonna get the "We can give up on him" or the "He'll be brilliant for someone else if we let him go"..Good for whoever gets him..Let him be someone else's head and heartache..We need to look at someone else not nicknamed "maybe", "hopefully" or "could be"....

Hey guys...I have some bad news as well...and I figured with Kerry Wood's knee surgery already being bad news that I should just tell you all now, and get all the bad news out of the way:

I was thumb-wrestling with Prior and he tore all the ligaments in his thumb.

It was his left thumb, so at first we were like "oh...ok...well, you can pitch with that injury.." but then as we were crossing the street and laughing it up, he was hit by Marquis Grissom's Escalade and suffered several broken ribs and a concussion.

Those injuries aren't too bad...it is not like his shoulder or elbow got damaged, so we both figured "wow...got lucky there..." and then while he was laying on the ground getting a second wind, a couple of wild Bears started gnawing on his giant calves.

The Cubs trainer is optimistic that Prior will miss very little time, and Dusty Baker agreed, so it must be true.

Man...I am sure am glad I picked up Jerome Williams and Wade Miller on my Fantasy team last night!

Yes Neil I read your last comment and I agree that now is a better time to get it taken care of then later on in the season. However it is still frustrating that something new has surfaced yet again with Wood concerning his health. I would love for this to be minor, to not have much of an effect on the season. But two weeks is still important, especially when he is rehabbing from arm surgery. This may be minor but its still not good this close to the season to be having any kind of setback.

  • Trevor did you read my last comment? I really do not think this is a huge setback.

The Cubs site says that this will set Wood back at least two weeks..not a good sign guys. Let's hope that this new talk of Williams coming on strong and Miller looking good are true, because Wood won't be ready for a while.
