Cubs Expected to Announce Signing of Jason Simontacchi

According to reports in the Daily Herald, Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune this morning, the Cubs are expected to sign former St. Louis Cardinals right-hander, Jason Simontacchi with an invite to Spring Training. Simontacchi went 11-5 with a 4.02 ERA in 2002 and 9-5 with a 5.56 ERA in 2003. Simontacchi is 32 and underwent shoulder surgery after the 2004 season and spent last year rehabbing. Also the same reports mentioned another possible signing with a Spring Training invitation but did not mention a name and the Tribune mentioned, yet again, the possibility of Todd Walker being traded during Spring Training.
