The Cubs’ Boys of Winter?

Although the 2005 season ended for the Cubs on October 2nd, many of the players in the Cubs’ organization are playing winter ball. I have mentioned the Arizona Fall League (AFL), but there are several other leagues going on in different countries. There are Cubs in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Players go to these leagues to get extra training, to improve on a position, work on their hitting or learn other positions that will improve their Major League stock. Here is a list of Cubs and where they are playing this winter. In the Dominican Republic:

Juan Mateo (RHP) - Daytona (Class A) in 2005, 10-5 / 3.21 ERA / 123 SO

In Puerto Rico:

Luis Montanez (OF) – Peoria (Class A), West-Tenn (AA) in 2005, .293 / 14 HR / 62 RBI’s and 10 stolen bases

It is great to see this many players in the Cubs’ organization participating in Winter Ball and doing everything they can to improve in order to help their team. Where is Corey Patterson? Does anybody know?

Spring Training games start on March 2nd (Oakland at HoHoKam), I wonder how many of these guys will be invited to camp.
